Historical Note: A California Common for the “Common Good”. During WWII, Mare Island's military and civilian workforce came together to raise almost $76 million in war bonds – enough to pay for every submarine built at the shipyard. They did it with style too, rallying bond sales through the Mare Island “Follies” – lively vaudeville meets Bob Hope USO style shows, featuring live dance bands, slapstick comics, and the occasional Hollywood star. Of course, more than a few pints were poured too. Speaking of pints, when you buy a “War Bond” on tap at any of our three taprooms, we donate a portion to three local non-profits.
